Bentonite Clay

Bentonite is a natural material and in particular a type of rock consisting mainly of the clay mineral montmorillonite, formed by the alteration of volcanic rocks. The cosmetic use of this industrial mineral has been known for thousands of years as people used bentonite clay to cleanse the skin of oils and toxins. Modern research confirms that bentonite adsorbs oils and dirt from the skin by sticking to its molecules or ions. As the clay is washed away from the skin, unwanted impurities are removed with it, a property that gives it a powerful cleansing action.
