Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is a well-known plant with almost unknown, charismatic properties.
It has been used since ancient times and continues to this day, not only as a spice, but also as a medicinal herb.
The scientific name (Rosmarinus) and the popular name (Rosmarinus) have Latin roots and etymologically analyzed Rosmarinus > ros (dew) + marinus (marine). The plant was known since ancient times as an ornamental, medicinal and in religious ceremonies as an incense.
In Greece, traditionally, it was burned as incense during the period of the students’ examinations.
Properties
Rich in rosmarinic acid and flavonoids, it is an herb with strong anti-inflammatory action. Rosemary also acts as a tonic, stimulant, anxiolytic, astringent, neurotonic, stimulant, heating in the human body. Its proven contribution to a variety of symptoms is important. Indicatively mentioned are some of its actions, such as enhancing memory, concentration and good mood, the alleviation of headaches and migraines, the development of hair growth and the removal of anxiety.
