Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) is a well-known herb and is among the most widely used herbal medicines.
It is consumed – drunk as a decoction, traditionally, for the treatment of flu, colds and upper respiratory infections.
The name of the herb comes from the Greek word echinos, which means “sea urchin, hedgehog”, because of the spiky centre of the flower, which looks like a sea urchin especially when observed dry.
Properties
Echinacea has immunomodulatory action, contributing actively to the stimulation of the immune system and the good and smooth functioning of this.
